The Yale Daily News Historical Archive

Giving Opportunities

The University Library is seeking support to continue digitizing all issues of the paper before 2001. Digitization of the YDN costs between $6,000 and $8,000 per year of publication, depending on the number of pages. Donors can choose to fund years that have special personal significance to them or that they feel are especially historic (sample topics of interest are listed below). These gifts will be recognized on the archive web site.

  • 1879-1900 – The Gilded Age/Age of Enterprise; the Age of the Robber Barons; William Graham Sumner's America (Sumner was a famous social Darwinist Yale professor)
  • 1900-1913 – Progressivism/Age of Reform
  • 1920-1930 – The Roaring Twenties
  • 1930-1940 – The Great Depression, Legal Realism movement in law - Yale law school plays a major role
